Christina María Aguilera (born December 18, 1980) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Born in Staten IslandNew York and raised in Rochester and Wexford, Pennsylvania, she appeared on the television series Star Search and The Mickey Mouse Club in her childhood.
Aguilera rose to prominence as a bubblegum pop singer in the 1990s, her self-titled debut album (1999) debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, and spawned the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants", and "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)". She experienced moderate success worldwide with her follow-up records Mi Reflejo and My Kind of Christmas (2000), and earned her fourth number-one single in the United States with a cover version of "Lady Marmalade" in 2001. Displeased with her lack of input in her image and music, Aguilera assumed creative control for her fourth studio album, Stripped (2002), which draws influences from many genres including soulhip hopLatin, and rock. The album spawned multiple top-ten singles, including "Dirrty" and "Beautiful", and was one of the best-selling albums of that year.
